The erosion of Caracas’ memory is an ubiquitous theme, an inevitable theme… an obsession. Heraclitus told us that this river’s always flowing but at times it’s better to take refuge in flea markets, garage sales and second, third or fifth hand shops. Among the comforting pages of ebay or running through the classified ads, we establish dialogues about what things mean to us, or meant to others. These are all spaces for inheriting memories.
I’m gradually setting up this virtual gallery as a kind of storeroom for the curiosities that I’ve been collecting on Caracas and Venezuela. The majority will be objects and images from the 1950s but there’ll also be a bit of everything. Unless I say otherwise, they’re all objects that I own, and in case I add anything from other collections, I’ll make it clear. I hope this space will make it possible to fill in the gaps surrounding information that I don’t have regarding the objects. Any comments will be very welcome.
